A public art commission, to work with a Coventry womens group – “I’ll do that for you Love!”. We learned traditional construction skills and after a year long collaborative process created a new sculptural work for the city’s War Memorial Park. We were referencing the dangers of underground walkways and violence against women and the subsequent fears of public spaces at night this engenders in women and girls. The work was underground, two parallel brick lined ‘sections’ of subway corridor, made innaccessible by street grating above, and lit by the orange glow of sodium street lights. These spaces were Sci-Fi. An empowering project for those involved, it sparked a whirl of controversy in the Coventry Evening Post.
